"Glorifying God by Connecting the Sexually & Relationally Challenged to Jesus Christ."

How to Minister to Gay Friends

Step 1: Begin with Scripture and Prayer

  • Ask God to help you be led by scripture in Romans 2 that reads,"not knowing that the goodness of the the Lord or the kindness of the Lord brings you to repentance."
  • Pray for God's unconditional love to be known to them. Have friends pray for them as well.
  • Pray that God would help guide you through this journey with them. Listen for God's leading for every step.

Step 2: Build Genuine Relationships

  • Be relational, show a genuine interest in them. Welcome them into your world. Most gay-identified folks are lonely and looking for a friend they can trust. Many have been sexualy and emotionally violated.  Keep in confidence personal things shared.
  • Resist the urge to fix them or force Scripture on them.
  • Let them do most of the talking.  Ask them questions about their lives.
  • Listen and encourage them.

Step 3: Explore Together Biblical Truths About Spiritual and Relational Brokenness

  • When the Holy Spirit leads, ask them if they would like to participate in your weekly house church fellowship, Bible Study, or other relational spiritual venue.
  • Remember, we are not pleasing people but God, "If I were still trying to please people, I would not be a servant of Christ." Gal. 1:10
  • Keep in mind also, "Love never fails," 1 Cor. 13:8
